Regional Network for Asian Schistosomiasis and Other Helminthic Zoonoses

The Regional Network on Asian Schistosomiasis as it was originally called was conceived from a TDR initiative in 1996 to bring together all possible stakeholders in a renewed bid to step up the fight against schistosomiasis japonica. Two years later in 1998 in Wuxi, China, 70 scientists and representatives from control authorities from PR China, the Philippines and other countries planned the beginning of the network based on intersectoral, interregional and international collaboration for research, surveillance and control of schistosomiasis japonica.This special issue of Advances in Parasitology captures this journey of RNAS+ from its early beginnings to its current post especially marking its accomplishments in researches, the impact of these researches, the contribution of the network to country control programs, the influence that RNAS+ has made on control programs, research agenda and its stakeholders and lastly the challenges that the network continues to face and its way forward.
