United Nations peace operations 2011: year in review
Peacekeeping enables the UN to assist host countries in the transition from conflict to peace. Its unique strengths include legitimacy, burden sharing and an ability to deploy and sustain troops and police from around the globe, integrating them with civilian peacekeepers to advance multidimensional mandates.
