During the past ten years, neuroradiological evaluation of the neonatal and the prenatal brain has advanced tremendously. However, even though they are intrinsically related, these two critical stages in brain development are usually studied and presented separately. In order to have a sound understanding of neonatal brain diseases, detailed knowledge of prenatal brain pathology is immensely helpful; conversely, knowledge of neonatal brain disease is a prerequisite for understanding many fetal brain lesions. The novel aim of this book is to illustrate, using a unified approach, the normal appearances and diseases of the fetal and the neonatal central nervous system, with matching of clinical and neuroradiological aspects for the entire range of CNS pathology. All of the neuroradiological techniques are considered, but the principal focus is on both traditional and advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques. The use of ultrasound during fetal life is described only in terms of its role as the gold standard, but its application during neonatal life is discussed in more detail. The roles of computed tomography and traditional angiography are also discussed and evaluated. ?
