This book analyses the development path of transition economies in European Countries and former Soviet Republics that have experienced the transformation from planned economies to market economies since the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989. It examines economic growth, institutional change and human development performance. PASQUALE TRIDICO is Assistant Professor at the University of Rome III, Italy. During his PhD, on transition economics, he was Marie Curie Fellow at Sussex University, UK, and at Warsaw University, Poland. Tridico spent three yearsconducting post-doctoral research on a European Union project, working at Trinity College, Dublin, Newcastle University and Lancaster University, UK. In the autumn of 2009 he was Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Los Angeles in California, USA. He was external Research Associate at Trinity College, Dublin, and member of the EAEPE Council. He is currently Fulbright Scholar at New York University, USA.
