Trade and development report, 1981-2011: three decades of thinking development
The publication reviews progress in African regional integration and suggestsaccelerating continental integration. Several recommendations relate to accelerating integration; taking into account international trade policy and strengthening trade negotiators' capacities; and the need for development-driven regional integration. The focus, inter alia, is on export value addition, diversification in manufactured goods and services and attracting more foreign and domestic investment. The establishment of a Multi-Agency Task Force on the African Common Market and Economic Community is recommended to monitor progress in regional integration and undertake studies on strengthening economic integration in specific areas. The study provides comprehensive research and analysis on Africa's intra-trade flows and recommends their expansion.
