Geoffrey of Monmouth as feminist historian, mythmaker, and mythographer
Tolhurst, Fiona
Geoffrey of Monmouth's fame as the biographer of the legendary hero King Arthur has often prevented readers from recognizing his significance as a historian and creator of myth. However, Geoffrey should be famous as the only feministhistorian of medieval Britain whose female figures offer models of good rule and political savvy. FIONA TOLHURST Associate Professor of English at Alfred University, USA. She teaches medieval and renaissance literature and co-chairs the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program. She has published articles on English and French Arthurian literature in 'Arthuriana' and 'Bibliographical Bulletin of the International Arthurian Society', on medieval historiography in 'Historical Reflections/Reflexions Historiques', and on C.S.
