The global crisis and transformative social change
Global crises not only deeply impact the economy and people's livelihoods, they also unsettle basic ideas and assumptions about the meaning and drivers of development. This collection of theoretical and empirical studies explores thesubstance and politics of policy change following the 2007/8 crisis from the perspective of developing countries. PETER UTTING Deputy Director and Coordinator of the Markets, Business and Regulation Programme of the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), Switzerland. His publications include the edited volumes 'Business, Politics and Public Policy' as well as'Corporate Social Responsibility and Regulatory Governance: Towards Inclusive Development?' (both co-edited with José Carlos Marques), 'Corporate Accountability and Sustainable Development'(co-edited with Jennifer Clapp) and 'The Greening of Business in Developing Countries: Rhetoric, Reality and Prospects'. SHAHRA RAZAVI Research Coordinatorat UNRISD and specializes in the gender dimensions of social development witha particular focus on livelihoods and social policies. Her recent publications include 'Gendered Poverty and Well-being; Gender Justice, Development and Rights' (co-edited with M.
