Phytogenics in animal nutrition: natural concepts to optimise gut health and performance

In recent years phytogenic feed additives have gained considerable attentionin the feed industry. Scientists and nutritionists have been focusing on thepotential of such feed additives as flavouring agents and growth promotersworldwide. Today knowledge about phytogenic substances is broad and severacommercial products have entered the markets. However, the mechanisms ofaction of such substances are versatile and need further elucidation andscientific proof. The present work provides an overview about theapplication and potential benefits of phytogenic substances and plant-basedfeed additives in animal nutrition. Up-to-date knowledge is reviewed bydifferent renowned researchers with respect to the application in differentanimal species, including pigs, poultry, ruminants and aquatic species. Thebook highlights results from in vitro experiments as well as in vivo trials,focusing ont he scientific proof and practical implication of phytogenicfeeding concepts.
