Although the world has gained much new knowledge, the basic known content or knowledge base of primary mathematics is relatively unchanged. At the same time, our knowledge of how children learn has much expanded and changed. We use many new and better approaches to learning and teaching. Pre-occupation with this new pedagogical knowledge has perhaps distracted us from the mathematics knowledge itself. This book focuses primarily on the mathematics content, but restates it in the current context of expanded pedagogical knowledge.
