While the standards and products for VoIP and SIP services have reached market maturity, security and regulatory aspects of such services are still being discussed. SIP itself specifies only a basic set of security mechanisms that cover only a subset of possible security issues. In the context of this book, anoverview of the various aspects of securing SIP-based services will be provided giving the reader a detailed and comprehensive overview of the security issues related to SIP. This will encompass a description of the problems themselves and the standard solutions for these problems. Where a standard solution ismissing, the alternatives will be described and the pros and cons of the different alternatives will be highlighted. There are already a couple of books addressing the issue of VoIP security. However, these books address generally aspects of secure IP communication and have not concentrated on SIP itself. Thereby this will be the first book that gives a detailed overview of the SIP specific security issues.
