Cardiomyopathy is one of the most frequent causes of heart failure. It is often associated with inadequate heart pumping or other heart function abnormalities. There are many different causes of the disease, e.g. other diseases, alcoholism, high blood pressure, viral infections; therefore many different kinds of cardiomyopathies exist, belonging to five main types of CM: Dilated CM, Hypertrophic CM, Restrictive CM, Right Ventricular CM, Nonclassifiable CM. This volume focuses on inflammatory CM, belonging to the Dilated Cardiomyopathies (DCMi). It covers epidemiology/prognosis, pathology, immunology, diagnosis and treatment strategies. Comprehensive overview, covering epidemiology/prognosis, pathology, immunology, diagnosis and treatment strategies INDICE: From the contents Epidemiology and Prognosis of Myocarditis and Dilated Cardiomyopathy: Predictive Value of Clinical Parameters and Biopsy Findings.- Autoimmune Myocarditis and Immunomodulatory Interventions.- Coxsackievirus Induced Myocarditis and Immunomodulatory Interventions.- Remodeling of the Extracellular Matrix in Coxsackievirus Induced Myocarditis and Therapeutic Interventions.- Molecular Genetics of Myocarditis and Dilated Cardiomyopathy.- Pathogenic Relevance of Autoantibodies.- Role of Cytokines in Myocarditis and Heart Failure.- Histopathological Characterization of Human Myocarditis and Dilated Cardiomyopathy.- Immunohistological Diagnosis of Inflammatory Cardiomyopathy and Diagnosis of Cardiotropic Viral Infections.- Cardiac MRI – Non-InvasiveApproach for the Detection of Myocardial Inflammation – Potentials and Limitations.- Clinical Management of Acute Myocarditis and Dilated Cardiomyopathy.- Immunosuppressive Treatment.- Antiviral Interferon beta Treatment in Viral Cardiomyopathy.
