Rodríguez Bolívar, Manuel Pedro
This book analyzes the creation of public value in smart cities and the role of governments in this process. Building on research into the creation of smart cities, this volume furthers the discussion by examining the use of smart technologies as a way to solve common issues and problems in public administration and highlighting some of the most important organizational challenges facing their implementation within the smart cities framework. The book is divided into four parts. Part I of the book creates a comprehensive concept of public value in smart cities through comparative analysis of different theoretical and empirical approaches. Part II of the book analyzes the context and factors needed to create public value in the smart city framework, focusing on the role of governments, public policy, and drivers and risks involved. Part IV of the book discusses organizational issues involved in the implementation of smart technologies and their link with public value creation. The book concludes by summarizing the findings presented and proposing future research opportunities and strategies regarding smart cities. Expanding the literature on public value creation in Smart Cities, this volume will be of interest to academics, researchers, policy-makers, public managers, international organizations and technical experts involved in and responsible for the governance, development and design of smart cities.
