The Monfort Plan acts as an introduction to the fascinating world of microfinance and the financial services for the poor, the current environment, the trends going forward, and how it might transition into a new concept of banking for the poor. The book is inspired by the authors work at the London School of Economics where he researched the topic for six months. During the six-month research stage, Pozuelo-Monfort interacted with more than a dozen of the most prominent personalities in the microfinance industry, including the following: Rupert Ayton (CDSOFI), Brigitte Helms (IFC), Damian von Stauffenberg (Microrate), Emmanuelle Javoy (Planet Rating), Elizabeth Littlefield (World Bank), and many, many more. In The Monfort Plan, the author incorporates commentary from these and other relevant professionals from the microfinance industry.Jaime Pozuelo-Monfort (New York, NY) has worked in the technology sector in Madrid, Stuttgart and Paris, and in the financial industry in New York City andLondon. He graduated from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid in 2000 with a master's and a bachelor's in telecommunications engineering, having also studiedtwo years as an exchange student at Telecom Paris and Universitat Stuttgart. Subsequently he earned master's degrees in business administration from College des Ingenieurs in Paris, in financial economics from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, in financial engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and in economic development from the London School of Economics. He currently pursues a master's in public administration at Columbia University. His interests lie in the interaction between financial economics and economic development. In addition he is a columnist in written and electronic press, and is the founder of the blog www.5spaniards.com. He is the author of Redefining Capitalism, a paper that was finalist in the Robin Cosgrove Prize for Ethics in Finance. He also authors the Decem Series on Funding for Development, a series on ten articles that propose alternative mechanisms to raise funding for development aid in the developing world.
