This edited volume explores the various advances in knowledge and innovation in organizations and how these advances alter organizational frameworks and dynamics at the company level as well as in the marketplace. In addition, this book also takes into account the ways in which knowledge and innovation impacts overall sustainability. Specifically, the contributing chapters examine how knowledge is generated in business, how such knowledge gives raise to innovation and how these innovations affect sustainability.

The needs of sustainability initially appear as a restriction; however they can be transformed into a new set of opportunities for organizations. This means that the classic academic contributions on how management absorbs the experiences associated with new environments must be reconsidered in the light of the preservation of the technological, ecological, and social ecosystems. In order for companies to obtain competitive advantage in the present economy, it is not sufficient to just innovate; jointly with innovation, companies must convert the preservation of their business ecosystem into another essential source of competitive advantage. The different chapters in this book collectively provide different forms and processes in the creation of knowledge and innovation in a means to increase sustainability.
