Management of unintended and abnormal pregnancy: comprehensive abortion care
Paul, Maureen
Lichtenberg, Steve
A Clinicians Guide to Medical and Surgical Abortion (Churchill Livingstone, 1999) was the first comprehensive clinical text on abortion to be published in many years, and it quickly became an invaluable resource for health care professionals who provide abortion care and for educators involved in the training of medical students, residents, and fellows. Given the tremendous advances in the management of unintended and abnormal pregnancy over the past decade, the time has come to update this critical reference text and to expand its contents to appeal to a wider audience. The unique feature of this book will include its breadth of information and expertise, its practicality for both reproductive health specialists and primary care clinicians in the United States and other countries, and its provision of updated practices and protocols for non-surgical approaches to induced and spontaneous abortion. CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS EDITION Chapters 4 and 5 on legal and ethical issues, and on developing countries, are new. The chapter on procedure selection has been removed. The chapter on induction methods after the first trimester has been updated to include management on retained placenta. All chapters 16 to 20 are new and include management of abnormal pregnancies including miscarriage and trophoblastic disease. Chapters 3 and 15 on legal issues and quality care in abortion services have been moved earlier in the book.
