This book provides a detailed description of the theories, tools, and competencies that are required for governance for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The purpose of the unique integrative approach in this book is to address the fragmentation of governance across governance levels, sectors, and interests. Such fragmentation is an important barrier to achieving the SDGs. The main question addressed is: What are the essential elements and the organizing logic of an integrative framework that is suitable for analysing governance for the SDGs from a multi-level, multi-sectoral perspective and for implementing the transitions that we need towards a more sustainable world?
This transdisciplinary book approaches this question from three main avenues. First, it proposes that applying a combination of innovative governance theories is needed in order to improve the analysis and practice of sustainability governance.
