Fission-Track Thermochronology and its Application to Geology
Malusa, Marco Giovanni
Fitzgerald, Paul
This book is focused on the geological interpretation of fission track data, and is conceived as a potential starting point for the next generation of fission track analysts. It is structured in two parts.
Part I is devoted to the basic principles of the fission track method, to the integration of fission track analysis with other geochronologic methods, and to the basic principles of statistics and hydraulic sorting applied to geochronologic analyses. Part II is devoted to the geological interpretation of the thermochronologic record. In this main part the basic principles, the conceptual ideas, and the different approaches for a correct geological interpretation of fission track data are discussed in detail. Selected case histories illustrate the potentials of the fission track method from the specific perspective of different Earth’s Sciences communities.
