Using the employee lifecycle as an underlying organizing framework, this bookexamines critical phases in I/O practice and the employee lifecycle (e.g., selection/placement, performance management/development, ongoing organizational performance) and how they are manifested in a global and culture-spanning space. Each of the books sections will showcase a different set of I/O practices that are grounded in good science. Throughout the book, practical advice will be offered by those who have engaged clients globally in each of these phases. Each chapter will show: Overview of the chapter topic (e.g., Why it is important for organization, impact of globalization on the practice/topic, challengesfacing global organizations with regard to the topic?) Assumptions/best practices as it relates to the topic in their home country (e.g., Is there anythingunique about selection in your home country or is it the same everywhere?) [note this will only work well if we have majority of authors from outside US] How those assumptions/best practices differ in other countries/regions of the world Whether any adaptations that have to be made (e.g., because of low internet penetration in emerging markets, alternative approaches to practice) Practical recommendations for global companies to maximize efficiency/effectiveness of the practice (e.g., practical suggestions for how Procter and Gamble can select the very best employees across the globe). Next steps what do we need to do to improve? (e.g., knowing what we know about OD, how can we do a better job of developing leaders in global organizations?) Section One covers practicalconsiderations for HR and OD practitioners working across geographic-culturalboundaries, including: Navigating the Complexities of a Global Organization, Attitudes, Values, and Culture, Teamwork in Multinational/Multicultural Organizations, HR in the global workplace, and Legal considerations in a global workplace Section Two covers attracting and selecting employees in the global workplace, including: Recruiting a global workforce, Selection in a global workplace, On-Boarding in a global workplace, Performance management, Developing Leadership in Global Organizations, Employee Engagement surveys, and Training and Development Section Three addresses sustaining organizational effectiveness over time, including: organizational change, leadership/power relationships, getting the best out of your expatriates, retention across cultures, country economies, and global functions, and mergers and acquisitions.Kyle Lundby is Lead Consultant with Kenexa, a leading provider of talent acquisition and retention solutions.
