Liquid crystal displays: addressing schemes and electro-optical effects
Lueder, Ernst
Revised and updated, the second edition of Liquid Crystal Displays contains two new chapters. There is a new chapter on TV displays with short response times including sections on motion blur and its reduction and shorter response times by special LC-materials; and a second new chapter on transflective displays including sections on the operation and examples of transflective displays as well as ferroelectric transflective displays. There is also an extended overview of displays with flexible substrates given, as well as significant new sections added which include the printing of layers for LCDs and the new manufacture of multidomains. Liquid Crystal Displays covers both the theoretical and practical aspects required by practitioners and researchers in the field, and features methods for designing improved Thin Film Transistors (TFTs), active matrix Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) devicesand light valves for projectors. The book also includes a complete set of design equations and rules for ferroelectric and other bistable displays for use in low power portable systems, as well as a discussion of both the electro-optical effects and the addressing schemes of LCDs, including analysis of their interdependence. The second edition of Liquid Crystal Displays will continue toadd to the success of the first edition by allowing engineers and students alike to further discover how to save energy and enhance the performance of their displays.
