The first edition of Eshbach's Handbook of Engineering Fundamentals, was published in 1936 as a general engineering reference book. At the time, Ovid Eshbach, who was Dean of Engineering at Northwestern University, could pull all of the content from across all of the technical disciplines together by himself as a tool for his graduating students. In the decades that have passed since then engineering has seen a massive growth in size and scope. Specialization is now the norm. However, because of the continual need for general reference material across a number of disciplines - this book is needed now as much as ever. Myer Kutz has proposed to focus the content slightly by removing coverage ofgeneral computer science and by combining the 3 chapters that cover various aspects of mechanics. The book will focus on engineering math, chemistry, and electrical engineering fundamentals - topics that critically relate to the traditional mechanical and aerospace engineering subjects that are covered in the remainder of the book. By doing this it is planned that the 5th edition will serve as a general reference for students and practicioners as well as serving the FE and PE Exam markets.
