The Wiley Series in Environmentally Conscious Engineering will be made up of a number of contributed books, each covering a broad subset of information. Planned titles include: Environmentally Conscious Mechanical Design, Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing, Environmentally Conscious Material and Chemical Processing, Environmentally Conscious Alternative Energy Production, Environmentally Conscious Transportation, Environmentally Conscious Materials Handling, and Environmentally Conscious Fossil Energy Production. The target market forthe series will be practicing professionals, both engineers and managers, andupper level engineering students. This seventh volume of the series, Environmentally Conscious Fossil Energy Production will describe and compare the environmental and economic impacts of conventional power generation technologies. In the long term, carbon neutral energy sources will dominate but such a transition will take time. For the next few decades, we will still have to rely on conventional energy sources. The focus of this volume will be on making conventional energy production systems more efficient and environmentally friendly. The environmental impact of conventional energy production systems can be reduced through a number of measures: making them more environmentally friendly, improving production and conversion efficiencies, and energy conservation. Topics to be covered include; environmental control in oil and gas exploration and onshore production, environmental impact of the offshore oil and gas industry, maritime oil transport and accidental oil spills, approaches for carbon mitigation in the electric power generation sector, clean coal technologies, energyconservation/efficiency in conventional energy production, energy-environmental-economic interactions, and others.
