Geothermal energy systems: exploration, development, and utilization
Huenges, Ernst
Ledru, Patrick
The book will be written by experts for the various geological situations in Europe with high temperature reservoirs in shallow and deep horizons. The authors gained responsibilities and skills in a number of realized projects covering reservoir exploration, its assessment, utilization, and provision of Earth's heat for direct use, power, and/or chill for a number of customers in Europe. The perspectives of R&D in geothermic technology, ending every chapter, willbe of great value for scientists and decision makers in research and politics. Besides researchers in Europe it will also be highly valuable for scientistsin countries outside Europe. The main target audience in this regard are those, who give courses e.g. in petroleum engineering, as the overarching field dealing with extraction of energy through boreholes, with specialization in geothermal energy.Research activities of Ernst Huenges aim at providing an environmentally benign and sustainable geothermal energy and subsurface storage of heat and cold. In his focus the supply of geothermal energy should become site-independent inthe long-term and tailored according to demand and thus supplementing, at thesame time, other renewable energy sources. This requires interdisciplinary approaches and synergies seen in connection with a series of developing fields of research involving the editor's experimental expertise on processes in deep reservoirs.
