Composite Precast Systems: Design and Construction focuses on the design and construction of novel composite precast frame systems, which permits almost effortless erection and structural efficiency. The topics covered offer significant reduction in the time required to assemble precast frames. The precast frame systems discussed in the book, with new connections are similar to that of steel frames, but offer similar savings to that of concrete frames. The design of connections and detailed analysis of their structural behavior is discussed in detail. Fundamentals with regards to the post yield behavior of concrete and metal are, also, presented to illustrate how these two different materials are integrated together to remove individual material drawbacks. The various types of construction methods used in current practice around the world are also discussed in detail to highlight the efficiency and economy of new methods. The theoretical background for the post yield behavior of steel frames encased by precast concrete is emphasized with a detailed explanation of the complex behavior of joint plates connecting two precast components. Readers are given a broad introduction to existing technologies which are then combined with a description of the construction methods that the author proposes. The book will help the end user to become familiar with existing types of structural forms, not just the Lego type frame system that the author proposes. The book presents the latest research findings; and then a new structural design method is presented using nonlinear, inelastic finite element analysis (FEA). The use of Abaqus-based software with detailed comments on FEA parameters is also given. In addition, the source program based on Matlab which enables engineers to design composite frames rapidly and accurately without assistance from the FEA package is also provided. Throughout the book, plenty of illustrations are provided based on the BIM technique that explains the design and the erection process. The section on 'selected buildings' will give comprehensive case study examples of their application and use in construction.
