Selected aerothermodynamic design problems of hypersonic flight vehicles
Hirschel, E.H.
Weiland, C.
In this book selected aerothermodynamic design problems of different classes of hypersonic vehicles are treated. Emphasis is put, where it applies, on the fact, that outer surfaces of hypersonic vehicles primarily are radiation cooled. This has implications for the aerodynamic vehicle shape, but is also an interdisciplinary topic. Especially the couplings with the structure and materials concept of a vehicle are considered, where the surface properties and the thermal state of the surface play important roles. For airbreathing vehicles this has serious implications too, which are connected to the problem of aerothermodynamic propulsion integration, which is treated in its major aspects. The need of improved interdisciplinary design is increasingly met by numerical simulation and optimization methods. Their coupling with ground-facility and inflight simulation towards an integrated design is discussed. Different classes ofhypersonic vehicles such as winged reentry vehicles or capsules are treated Written for scientists, engineers and advanced students in aerothermodynamics INDICE: Introduction.- Short Introduction to Flight Trajectories for Aerothermodynamicists.- Aerothermodynamic Design Problems of Winged Re-Entry Vehicles.- Aerothermodynamic Design Problems of Winged Airbreathing Vehicles.- Aerothermodynamic Design Problems of Non-Winged Re-Entry Vehicles.- Stabilization, Trim and Control Devices.- Forces, Moments, Center-of-Pressure, Trim, and Stability in General Formulation.- Multidisciplinary Design Aspects.- The Thermal State of a Hypersonic Vehicle Surface.- Approximate Relations for the Determination of Aerothermodynamic Parameters Referred to and/or Employed in this Book.- The Governing Equations of Aerothermodynamics.- The Earth Atmosphere.
