The core of evidenced-based maternal and child health is about using the bestresearch about the safety and effectiveness of specific tests, treatments, and other interventions to help guide MCH decisions. Females of child-bearing age especially need to be informed about the best strategies to ensure and protect their health. Evidenced-Based Maternal and Child Health: Reproductive and Perinatal Health takes several key topics on reproductive outcomes and approaches them from a population-based standpoint. Chapters include sexually transmitted infections (STIs), infertility, pregnancy and birth, and maternal morbidity, among others. Authors will focus on overall strategies for prevention, reduction, and/or promotion and would address particular strategies to reduce disparities in the selected outcome. As maternal and child health is one of the core areas of study for public health students, the text will cater to the students specializing in this area. Focuses on the extent possible on population interventions, rather than clinically focused interventions, related to particular outcomes Offers 'summary of the evidence' tables that reflect studies related to key interventions discussed in each chapter INDICE: From the contents: - What is Evidence-Based Public Health?.- Identifying and ASsessing Evidence-Based Publis Health.- Applying the Evidence.- Methodology for Reviewing the Evidence.- Family Planning and Access to Abortion.- STI, HIV/AIDS Screening and Treatment.- Well-woman care/preconceptional/interconceptional care.- Smoking cessation and reducing exposure to environmental smoke.- Preconceptional/interconceptional/prenatal home visiting and case-management programs.- Nutrition Programs during Pregnancy.- Prenatal Care.- Enhanced and New Models/Approaches to Prenatal care.- Domestic Violence screening/Substance Abuse Screening and Treatment/Perinatal Depression Screening and Treatment.- Regionalized Perinatal Care.- Current Specific Approaches to Reducing Prematurity.- Labor and Delivery Approaches/Quality Intrapartum Care-Intervention to Improve Reproductive/Perinatal Health in the Developing World.
