The book will be designed as a self-teaching need-to-know take on a classic networking book. The books content is not engineering level nor is it geared toa particular certification. Rather, it is targeted toward an IT professional making a move to the networking side in a corporate and/or enterprise setting who needs to know the basics, but also needs clearly explained implementation and management guidance. The content also serves as a solid and comprehensive tutorial for the basic level as well as advanced level of networking. The bookwill provide an overview of networking technologies, including the hardware, software, transmission media, and data transfer processes. The OSI and TCP/IP reference models will be covered in depth. The book will also cover Operating Systems and other systems software that are used in todays networks. In addition LANs, WANS, MANs will be covered, as well as the components and standards that operate within each type of Area Network. The book will cover how each is able to interact with one another with the goal that the reader can use the book to select, design, and implement a network.
