Peroxidases and catalases: biochemistry, biophysics, biotechnology and physiology
Dunford, H. Brian
Jones, Peter A.
This book will cover (1) background and history, (2) summary of current research on peroxidase and catalase enzymes, (3) detailed chapters on mammalian peroxidases including medical and physiological roles, (4) two chapters on spectroscopic and theoretical techniques for studying peroxidases will be described, enabling biochemists to understand the contributions made principally by physicists and physical/theoretical chemists, (5) In addition to heme peroxidases and catalases, other peroxidases will also be covered, principally vanadium peroxidases and selenium peroxidase. Chapters will be added on relevant plant and animal physiology.H. Brian Dunford has a career as a biophysical chemist working on peroxidase enzymes. This career started with a sabbatical leave in 1965 working in the laboratory of Robert Alberty at the University of Wisconsin. Other study leaves were taken at Oxford University with R. J. P. Williams, Gothenburg University with Bo Malmstrom, University of Sao Paolo with Giuseppe Cilento, Fritz Haber Institut, Berlin, with Joseph Holzwarth, and the University of Copenhagen withKaren Welinder. Dunford has had 20 successful Ph.D. candidates as students, and 18 post-doctoral fellows. Eleven visiting professors and 13 graduate students from other universities have conducted research in his laboratory. Dunford has worked with scientists from 26 countries. He has 251 publications, nearly all in peer-reviewed journals.
