Energy exchange is a major foundation of the dynamics of physical systems, and, hence, in the study of complex multi-domain systems, methodologies that explicitly describe the topology of energy exchanges are instrumental in structuring the modeling and the computation of the system's dynamics and its control. This book is the outcome of the European Project 'Geoplex' (FP5 IST-2001-34166) that studied and extended such system modeling and control methodologies. This unique book starts from the basic concept of port-based modeling, and extends it to port-Hamiltonian systems. This generic paradigm is applied to various physical domains, showing its power and unifying flexibility for real multi-domain systems. Well structured reference book presenting the new paradigm of Port Hamiltionian Systems which has a large potential to be successful in tackling some of the big challenges in modern control theory and engineering The potential reference for many new developments taking place in modeling and control Extend the readers knowledge and understanding of advanced modeling, analysis and control methods using the Port-Hamiltonian Systems paradigm Provides systematic methods for analysis and control, closely linked to the physics of the system. The power of these methods is demonstrated in various physical domains INDICE: Port-Based Modeling of Dynamic Systems.- Port-Hamiltonian Systems.- Port-Based Modeling in Different Domains.- Infinite-Dimensional Port-Hamiltonian Systems.- Control of Finite-Dimensional Port-Hamiltonian Systems.- Analysis and Control of Infinite-Dimensional Systems.
