An updated version of a popular book that explains the concepts and jargon ofthe electric power industry to the layman. The book is written for individuals in government, business, educational institutions, and the general public. Government and business decisions on electricity supplies often fail to recognize how power systems work and the uncertainties involved. The intent is to provide these individuals with a better understanding of electric power systems, institutions, and the electric power business. Presentation is straightforwardand practical, with a limited amount of information designed for more advanced readers. The book has been updated to include information on new and expanding technologies, major regulation changes worldwide, utilities' repsponses to global warming, and the rising importance of renewable energy sources.Jack Casazza is President of the American Education Institute and an Outside Director of the Georgia Systems Operation Company. He is an IEEE Life Fellow, a former utility executive and consultant, and has won many awards for his contributions to the development of electric power systems. Frank Delea is retired from Consolidated Edison Company, where he had a wide range of assignments giving him insight into planning, operational, financial, organizational and legal issues. He was the Company's Chief Electric Planning Engineer, its Chief Forecast Engineer, and its first Project Manager for Rate Cases. He is presently associated with the American Education Institute where he conducts short courses in technical, business, and regulatory issues relating to electric power systems for non-engineers. Thomas R. Schneider pursued early research in renewables at the University of Pennsylvania before joining PSE&G Planning and Research. Subsequently, Dr. Schneider served as Program Manager, Department Director and Executive Scientist at the Electric Power Research Institute. Dr. Schneider has is an independent consultant in energy technology, resources and strategy. He has served as a reviewer for NSF, DOE and DOD R&D programs, was Chairof the IEEE-USA Energy Policy Committee and served as an IEEE Congressional Science and Technology Fellow in the U. S. Senate.
