Echocardiography is still relatively underused in the management of critically ill and haemodynamically unstable patients. There is a definite trend for favouring echocardiography over invasive assessment in intensive care units, however, clear guidelines are lacking. The author's own experience over the last few years and his interaction with junior doctors convinced him that a book covering this topic is long overdue and would be very welcome. In fact the idea of this book is the fruit of teaching sessions and ward rounds during which the interest and receptiveness for this topic were obvious. Pocket-book format for quick reference Provides clear guidelines that are currently in demand INDICE: Getting ready for the study: How to set up the machine.- Ultrasound systems basics.- Controls and settings.
