Previously authored by Pickup and Williams, the Handbook of Diabetes is one of the most recognisable diabetes books in the market. It has always sold extremely very well through both trade and pharma, the previous edition from 2004 selling 6000 trade copies, and its clarity, accessibility and clinical excellence ensured that it won first prize in the endocrinology category of the 2005 BMA Medical Book Awards. It's overall aim has always been to provide as practical and clinical a handbook for guidance on the management of patients with diabetes as possible, with strong emphasis being on it being as user-friendly andclinically accessible as possible. As such, it attracts a wide following and is used by trainee specialists, diabetic nurses, dieticians, GP's, as well as the specialist endocrinologist who value its ability to quickly summarise key clinical information. This edition has been dramatically improved from the previous edition. Richard Donnelly and Rudy Bilous have brought a new freshness to the product, and with them, a plethora of new methods to ensure its popularity. These include a variety of clinical text features such as case histories, practice point boxes, key weblinks, and key points, all clearly colour coded to help the reader quickly assimilate information. The book will also have a completely new selection of clinical photos to replace the old. Accompanying thebook will be a CD which will contain all 250+ images from the book, which canbe downloaded for use in powerpoint slides and presentations. Finally, the text has been entirely revised and updated to reflect the changes in diabetes practice since publication of the previous edition, such as information on the new IFCC units for measuring blood glucose, the latest on the drugs used to combat diabetes, as well as alternative methods of insulin delivery. In summary, the new Handbook of Diabetes has been modernised and updated in all aspects, and once again will function as the number one clinical handbook for all those with an interest in diabetes assessment and management.
