This book covers the area of biomaterials broadly, providing important introductory chapters to fundamentals, processing, and applications of biomaterials.Within each section, specific topics covered highlight the state of the art research within one of the above sections. The organization of the book is designed to provide easy understanding by students as well as professionals interested in biomaterials. The fundamentals section will include the following specific topics: structure and properties of calcium phosphates, mechanical properties of bones, interaction of cells with nanobiomaterials, interface tissue engineering, blood compatability, and polymer-ceramic biocomposites. The processing section will include emerging manufacturing techniques such as Laser Assisted Net Shaping (LENS) as well as processes involved in designing bioactive scaffolds and polymeric drug delivery systems.
