Current Trends and Future Developments on Bio-Membranes: Membrane Technology for Water and Wastewater Treatment - Advances and Emerging Processes

Water is an essential resource which despite its abundance needs to be properly managed to reduce the impact of anthropic pollution. Efficient and reliable wastewater treatment, reuse or recycle calls for efficient, versatile, compact and cost-effective technologies as well as membrane processes. More consolidated membrane processes (e.g. microfiltration, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis) and emerging membrane technologies (e.g. membrane distillation, forward osmosis) are increasingly applied to wastewater treatments. Membrane Technology for Water and Wastewatent Treatment: Advances and Emerging Processes presents recent advances and the status of application of membrane processes to both urban and industrial wastewater. Specific case studies of application of membrane technologies will be described in the last part of the book. Membrane processes have been widely studied but their application in the wastewater sector is increasing very rapidly. The book deals with the application in the wastewater sector of more consolidated (e.g. MBR, NF, RO, ED) and emerging membrane technologies (e.g. MBfR, MD, FO, MFC). Some specific case studies of membrane technology application to some relevant wastewater (e.g. municipal, dairy, oily refinery, etc.) will be discussed in the last part of the book. Presents recent advances of wastewater treatment by using membrane processesOutlines novel and emerging membrane technologies, e.g. membrane distillation, forward osmosis, membrane biofilm reactorsIncludes recent developments of more consolidated membrane processes, e.g. membrane biological reactors, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, etc., either for water treatment or desalinationIncludes interesting and instructive case studies on the application of membrane technologies to various wastewater sources, eg municipal, dairy, olive mill, refinery, pulp and paper INDICE: Part 1.
