This book focuses on electrocatalysis based on chalcogenides, particularly in the nanoscale domain. Particular attention is paid to the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). In particular, the book provides an introduction to materials synthesis, basic principles of electrocatalysis, associating precious versus non-precious catalytic center chalcogenides as well as supports, and the role of such supports to stabilize the catalytic centers. In short: it covers the properties of this class of electrocatalysts, from the bottom up approach, to application in low-temperature fuel systems such as the microfluidic fuel cells for portable devices. Since the book will illustrate the basic ideas behind materials design from cluster to cluster-like compounds providing current research focuses.
