Propagation of sound in porous media: modelling sound absorbing materials
Allard, Jean
Atalla, Noureddine
The first edition of Propagation of Sound in Porous Media introduced the basic theory of acoustics and the related techniques, which are needed for theoretical treatment and modelling of acoustic materials. By using these bases, manyapplied technologies and simulation models, which enable us to estimate the acoustic behaviour of various materials, are derived without theoretical failure. Research and development in sound absorption has however progressed significantly since the first edition. The methods described therein, which at the time were highly technical and specialized, have since become main stream and are used today extensively in both academia and industry. In this second edition, several original topics have been revisited and practical predictions methods and industrial applications have been added that will increase the breadth of its appeal to both academics and industrialists. New chapters have also beenadded on numerical modeling in both low (finite element/boundary element) andhigh frequency (Transfer Matrix Method, SEA).
